SCOTLAND AND SKETCHES

Here's a continuation of my Scotland trip.  One day I threw a tantrum as I didn't want to go on a long, climbing walk in mud and bog.  So, yahey, I had an afternoon all to myself to paint.  I found a lovely spot by the edge of a Loch with a nearby shelter.  I had to dash in a couple of times because of a storm!  It was so quiet and lovely and I enjoyed every second.

We went on a steam train - pic sketched on the train from a brochure

Just had to paint this little red boat (can you see his smiley face).  My hubby was in a panic as we had just over 15 mins before the train left!

View from the corridor outside our bedroom. We stayed in a little castle complete with old baths, turrets but a beautiful garden full of rhodedendrums (can't spell it)

This is what I painted when I had my free time.  The Loch is a sea Loch and is Loch Shiel.  Apparently there were otters and deer nearby, but I never saw them.

Have a lovely Sunday!

  1. How wonderful, and aren't you the clever one to get out of a hike and paint instead. I like the little red boat sketch best, but they are all delightful memories of your trip.

  2. good decision not to go on the cold muddy walk Polly because the wc of the Loch is charming.

    1. I have a bad phobia of snakes and at the beginning of the walk there was a picture of a snake. I didn't want to have another panic attic. No strops in Anglesey I promise.

  9. Polly - these are truly lovely sketches of Scotland. I have never been there but hope to do so someday. Your art portrays just the way I would have pictured - the last one of the Loch is so fabulous. Have a wonderful day and thanks for sharing your trip with me.

  10. Hi Polly! All these waterpaintings look like great reminders of your trip. The bottom one specially attracts my eye. It's a beautiful scene, grandiose and a little sad, all at the same time. And I love your autoportrait at the top...ha ha!

  12. I found you from Debby Nolan the love she has for her garden & her art inspires me. I know I'm going to like following your blog. What fabulous scenes you have painted from your trip to Scotland somewhere I never visited in all the time I lived in England, I think it was the awful weather, it always seemed to be raining. I've just scrolled down and seen you were in Port Sunlight at the Lady Lever art gallery. I grew up so very near to there and had my first job working in the offices at what was then called 'Lever Brothers' I found you from Debby Nolan the love she has for her garden & her art inspires me. I've been living in France for almost 24 yrs now. So you are definitely a must to follow I'll use the email subscription.
