BLACKPOOL ZOO, FINITO, FIN, END

I have so enjoyed painting from the photographs I took at this delightful zoo.  I just knew I wouldn't rest until I had the ideas out of my system.  I don't paint many animals, so it was also a challenge. And most of you know I loooove a challenge.  Here are the final ones.

This one speaks for itself and it is frightening how so many species are in crisis.  Using mixed media like this was inspired by Lorraine Brown - do check out her work which is brilliant and innovative

Monkey Puzzle!  What shall I eat first?

Final flourish - Pretty Polly Parrot in Brusho.

Problem is, what on earth is going to inspire me next?  Nothing in the pipeline.  Perhaps I may read a book, tidy the garden, go for walks, do some baking  ...................   Well, whatever you are doing have a lovely autumnal weekend.

  1. Wherever your inspiration comes from... the resulting artwork is going to be stunning! These are so so exciting and original, Polly! I especially like the parrot... wow! I think it's the way that you start out with the 'real' subject, and then bring in your own feelings, and the atmosphere that surrounds the subject as well... it's wonderful!

  4. Dear Polly, it is apparent to me how much you like animals, because you paint them so, so well! No wonder you enjoyed this series so much. I like all three. the little monkey is adorable with its hesitation. The Parrot is stunning with the bright colors and the brusho effects that so much resemble feathers. I am sure that you'll find your next subject very quickly, you are so inventive...

    1. Thank you Blaga. I so loved the personal way the zoo was run and the animals all looked happy. Just feel a little flat after this series, perhaps I am ready for a short break anyway. I don't paint every day anyway. Take care and thank you for reading my blog. Have a lovely week

  5. Oh Polly your parrot is gorgeous, and that tiger too… can't leave out that delightful monkey. You met the animal challenge and won. It's Fall, don't those yellow and red leaves inspire you? You could illustrate your recipes or who knows where life will lead you. Whatever you do will feed your soul and a feast for the eyes, I have no doubt.

    1. You don't see all the results Lorraine!!! But thank you for what you say. I may try another mixed media but I find it really needs thinking about more than just working from a photograph. Thanks again

  11. Beautiful, vibrant paintings Polly - I particularly love the parrot. We had a mini-break last week. took the ferry to Dunkirk then visited Ghent and Rotterdam. Rotterdam zoo is brilliant and I have hundreds more photos added to my 'to do' folders'. Unlike you, most of mine stay there and don't make it to the drawing board - wish I could be as productive as you :-)

    1. Thank you Sue. I admire your wonderful work, with your wonderful detail and likeness. So opposite to how I paint, slapdash, impatient. But I am lucky I don't do commissions so I have the time to can paint anything I want. You live in a great area for trips 'over the water' and who knows, one day you may suddenly have the inspiration and dig out those photos. I do, though, remember you did a wonder tiger
