I have seen zentangles and been intrigued by them. You know me, if I seen something I haven't tried I NEED to have a go.
Officially, for those of you who don't know, and in brief, a zentangle is 3.5 inch square, in black pen on white paper, no right way up, abstract (nothing recognisable) and unplanned. You can buy books about zentangles and some of the shapes have very exotic names.
So, these are inspired by zentangles. I always was a rebel and never liked following rules. True to form I went my own sweet way. Found it very theraputic and easy to do whilst watching The Ryder Cup with my hubby. Also feeling delicate after a bout of the horrible noro virus, so this was a perfect way to mess about being busy doing nothing.
This is a Happy Polly, not a proper Zentangle - all the shapes are smileys. |
This is probably nearest to a true Zentangle |
I would class this as a doodle. |
Have a wonderful weekend doodling and doing your thing.
I know what you mean about not following rules always... I like your non zentangle things, very creative and lokk like lots of fun. I'll definitely try it. Have a great weekend doing what you want to do! :) Hugs
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting. Takes longer than painting! But great fun for a change
DeleteThink you did the right thing going it your way Polly, I bought a couple of books and little supplies earlier this year but did not find it relaxing trying to follow the beautiful designs. Would have done better to follow your idea and maybe it would be a destresser!
ReplyDeleteWas great fun for a change but took a long time and would hate to be tied to black and white. Thanks for commenting and still loving your tea series

DeleteThanks. They were fun to do but too fiddly for me
DeleteDear Polly - I love these (like you I came up with some of my own ways of working doodles - come close to the Zentangle method but not quite the same). You see I am a rule breaker too - so from one rebel to another lets have a great day doing our own thing (LOL)! Hugs!!
ReplyDeleteDidn't have you down as a rebel!! Nice to know I am not on my own. Have fun breaking the rules xx
DeleteMaybe, when I was a girl at school, I did zentangle, because I was bored listening to some lessons ... I never thought that someone would establish rules for what began as a free drawing ... but some people likes the "master plan" for each topic. Establish the rules, follow the rules put in these people a sense of peace (very ZEN) and is good for their health.
ReplyDeleteLike you, I feel bother for fixed rules that put an obstacle to my creativity.
I find SO perfect that you put signs around your name, dear Polly.
My health and I also think your improves in this way to create where the expression is more free and individual.
I hope your are well.
Rita , thank you I am very well now. You understand my thoughts exactly. The rules constrain y creativity and I can do without that. Instead of enjoying the process I would be worrying if I was doing it right. Better to run free. xx
