BRUSHO AND PHOTOSHOP

Thought I'd try a nightscene.  Not easy I know.  And experiment with a mixture of watercolour and brusho.  Firstly I painted a watercolour underwash of pinks, blues and yellows in staining colours.  Then I did the brusho painting using black and a little yellow only.  Using bleach I took out the shape of Blackpool Illuminations from the Brusho,  no drawing, I expected the non staining watercolours to still be there, giving the lights gentle colours showing through.  However, the bleach took out everything.  This was a surprise as I thought bleach didn't work on watercolours.

I was now frustrated!!!   So, I photographed the painting and then, inspired by Rita Vaselli's blog who played around with photoshop recently (Check out her our wonderful blog, beautiful paintings, and someone who experiments and loves art so very much). So I changed the hue and saturation on two of them (the vivid colours) and the other one is a filter and is supposed to be stained glass (you need to look at this one larger to see the effect. It was fun seeing the different colours and effects that you could achieve.  Boredom is my enemy and sometimes I need to find an exciting friend!!!!!!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

  1. Thanks,dear polly!!!
It 's so nice to be able to share their experience to create a wave of other experiences!
The ease of use of creative photo editing, along with the vibrant color of Brusho, can be a fantastic painting way to deepen and continue.
Being on blogger for me as for you, dear Polly, has the sense of being open and communicative to make more cheerful life every day. Cheerful and joyful as your artwork!!!

    1. I think it is wonderful how we can learn from one another, and how much there is still to learn not just watercolour, but new media and computers too. A never ending journey of pleasure.

    1. The white lines where done with pure bleach or you can use Milton, which doesn't smell as bad

  6. Because I don't paint (strictly pencils, me) I love reading about all your experiments. The stained glass effect is great (mosaic like) but I think your original painting is very effective without the effects.

Heaven help me if I started using bleach in my artwork, David already swears I'm turning/have turned into my Mum who bleaches everything it seems. Her flat usually smells like a public swimming bath

    1. Sometimes I think I should stick with one thing, but I get bored. I am glad you prefer my original painting. Bleach is something new and wonder what else I can do with it. But have found out that Milton works as well as doesn't smell as strong as bleach. Have a great weekend. Hope you're feeling better.

  7. Polly, this is a very neat effect. I love the outcome and how you did not quit when it did not quite work but pressed on. Bravo! I have to admit i have no idea what brusho is. Must look that one up. And photoshop is on my list of purchases. Thank you for stopping by my blog. I really appreciate your comments. :)

    1. I love your work, so a visit to your blog is a pleasure! Brusho is ink crystals like salt, and is very vibrant, and is taking off in the uk due to Joanne Boone Thomas. Photoshop I got the basic one but couldn't crack it so had to go on a course a while ago. Which was great fun.
