PIGMENT SHOP VENICE

Just look at this delicious shop window!  Isn't it scrumptious.  Found it down a side street in Venice.  Was devastated cos it was our last day and and it was Closed!!!  These pure pigments took my breath away.  Had to take the photograph, but it's taken me over 18 months to pluck up the courage to tackle it.  Took me longer than my usual paintings, had to concentrate and be fairly accurate with the drawing.  But oh I have enjoyed painting it.    In fact, I didn't use as many colours as you might think.  It's 16 x 10.  I think it may be finished!

Don't know if the background is OK

I've been spending far too much time on  facebook, and decided today was the day to start my withdrawal from the addiction!  I have put this on facebook to prove that I have done some painting.

If you are going to Venice you must at least look in the window of this wonderful shop.  It is near the Rialto Bridge

  1. Oh, it looks like pigment paradise! Very well drawn and painted. Not an easy subject with all these straight lines.

    1. Took me ages to draw. Had to use a ruler, which isn't like me. I'm a lazy painter and usually guess!

  2. Venice is on my wish list for 2013 so may well get to visit 'your' pigment shop. Lovely painting and I think the background is perfect.

I 'escaped' Facebook a couple of years back. It took weeks before they let me go LOL but I was spending far too long playing inane games etc so decided to stick with the Blog which I can control - none of that nasty poking and tagging me in photos etc ......

I know how disappointing it is to see just what you want in a shop that is closed. We were in Vienna a few years back and saw a garden gnome lying on its stomach with a knife protruding from his back. We both loved it (not being gnome fans) but the shop was closed and we flew home next day. We've never seen another one like it ......

    1. Thanks. Facebook is fun but I prefer my blogs. Haven't had a problem with poking and tagging YET! Laura Moore was talking about it on Saturday, but I didn't understand it. Hope it doesn't happen to me it sounds painful. Sorry about your gnome, it sounds just up my street. If I see one I will think of you.

  3. Lovely painting Polly- a bit like kids in a lolly shop to us painters! and I can say I found this little shop when in Venice in 2011. It was shut too when I visited but luckily we went back through Venice two weeks later and after much walking to trying and locate it we did and it was open.

    1. Oh I am so envious. Even better than a chocolate shop. What was it like inside, do tell me. Oh and glad you liked the painting.

  7. Super job!!! Too bad you weren't able to get inside. The art supply stores in Venice that I went into were tiny but full of great things.

    1. Glad you liked the painting. You must have felt like a child in a toy shop. Perhaps will go there again some time!

  8. My Uncle used to go to Florence to get his art supplies, he was a painter and restorer in oils and apparently they were amazing paints.... we went to Venice in 2011 but unfortunately missed this little gem... not surprising with all the little streets and alleyways across the Rialto bridge, but never, fear we will go back!!! God help my ladies nice things account!! Lovely painting btw!!

    1. It was fun painting all the colours! Your Uncle must have thought the art supplies were superior by far to go all that way. I would have loved to know how much the pigments were. Ah well, hopefully there will be a next time. Thanks for popping by.

  9. Great little painting, Polly. The background is doing it's job...not competing with your focus...those juicy pigments. i feel sorry for you for missing out...shame your 'lolly shop" was closed. but you've captured the moment well!
