CARD FOR MY NIECE

This is a card made for my lovely niece's birthday.  It is her children walking through the churchyard at my nephew's wedding last summer.  I knew when I took the photo that I wanted to paint it one day.  What a perfect composition. The pose adds the mystery - what are they talking about?  I missed out the buildings in the distance and the gravestones.  My great nephew was so proud, he was wearing a suit exactly the same as his Dad, and my great niece a bridesmaid, was wearing a dress (she is a tomboy!) they looked adorable.    I was so pleased Helen must have liked the card because she put it on facebook!

  1. Which attractive photo, which attractive watercolor and especially which kind gesture for your niece.
There is a very attractive atmosphere in this scene, we like to imagine a complicity between these 2 children.

  3. The gesture of children walking together, dressed to take part in the wedding, it's so well done!
    Somehow, this dress of bridesmaid
and this gray suit worn by the boy suggest a future ... The painting creates symbols and ideas, which in the photograph are not there.
    Congratulations, dear Polly!

    1. It is a privilege to paint for our loved ones. I hardly remember painting this one, it just sort of appeared. Helen was so thrilled with it too. I was pleased with it, not like me at all to say that! Thank you for your kind words.

  11. It is both a delicate and sweet painting and one that could have metaphoric meaning, as a few folks already suggested. I'm sure your niece is very happy with it.
